The Tom Bradley Stage

Tom Bradley was a very special Ulverston man. He was a familiar face at Ulverston’s many festivals and events and served as a passionate advocate of people’s rights. He supported Furness Tradition from it’s very early days. Every year he would grow a beard for the Dickensian Festival, and have it removed with a sponsored shave at our winter gathering. We were very pleased to see him come to last year’s festival despite his poor health. Sadly he passed away in January this year. Speaking at the time, Ulverston mayor Helen Irving said: “He was a super person and he got involved with everything. We’ve lost a good man of Ulverston.” His obituary summed him up very eloquently: ‘a good friend to many.’

Furness Tradition have decided to commemorate Tom by naming the marquee at the Market Cross at the Tom Bradley stage. We feel that Tom was always active in the centre of the community and the centre of the town is an ideal place to remember him.
