  1. Maz O’Connor’s first video from her new folk album ‘This Willowed Light’ is a beautiful animated video from Marry Waterson, and Maz has chosen Folk Radio UK to be its exclusive host for two days before it is made available publicly.

Describing the song ‘Awake Awake’ and her reasons for choosing it Maz says: “I found the song in the Full English Archive, which was being digitised when I was a BBC Performing Arts Fund fellow with the EFDSS last year. I loved the story of love-gone-wrong so I learned it and gave it a new tune. It became the opening track on my new album ‘This Willowed Light’.”

Of the way she found Marry and their collaboration was cemented, she says: “I really wanted an animated video for one of the tracks from the album, and Marry Waterson was suggested to me by a friend; I’d heard her music with Oliver Knight but had never seen one of her videos. I looked her up and fell in love with her aesthetic immediately, it’s so quirky and different, and her videos looks beautifully oldfashioned and brand new at the same time, which I thought would be perfect because that’s what I was aiming for with the sound of this album. I sent her a couple of songs from the album and she asked to make a video for ‘Awake Awake’ as the imagery of the song stood out to her very clearly. I love the result, she’s brought the story of thesong to life.”
